CAREER OPPORTUNITIES: NURSING

A LONG-STANDING TRADITION OF PATIENT CARE LIKE THIS CAN ONLY BE FOUND AT MEDICORP.

Time-Honored Nursing
Nursing at MediCorp has always been driven by a simple philosophy: patient care in its truest and most time-honored form. To ensure the success of our philosophy, MediCorp has one of the best nurse-to-patient ratios in Virginia. This is particularly true at our flagship facility - Mary Washington Hospital.

The facilities at MediCorp Health System have one of the
best nurse-to-patient ratios in Virginia.

So what does all this mean to you as a nurse at MediCorp? Simply this: you will enjoy better opportunities to care for your patients directly and build better relationships with their family and loved ones.

A Culture of Nursing Excellence
Established to provide the framework for enhancing nursing primarily at Mary Washington Hospital, our Nursing Center of Excellence serves to provide our nurses with three key focus goals:
Education and Research: to build a robust education program to assist nurses with the certification, continuing education programs, research, grant education, career development, and advancement through classroom, forums, and online learning.
Culture and Professional Practice: to provide a Shared governance model so that nurses are engaged in the day-to-day practice and decision-making of the units, such as performance excellence, policies and procedures, clinical practice, as well as education and development. An example of the model is our Clinical Advancement Pathway - a clinical ladder program that rewards our bedside nurses with advancement in their positions for increasing knowledge and skills.
Magnet Philosophy: to continually raise the bar of nursing at MediCorp, thereby creating a robust nursing team that grows, strengthens, and reinforces our entire system.

A Solid System of Support
As a nurse at MediCorp, you will come to work secure in the knowledge that you will always have a solid support system of managers around you. A nurse manager is typically responsible for your unit, working with a multidisciplinary clinical team. Management also includes nursing supervisors and team leaders, physician leaders working in coordination with nurse managers, and staff nurses working as team leaders on clinical councils. A fundamental responsibility of your nurse manager is to focus on appropriate daily nursing assignments that allow you time for your patients' medical and educational needs, as well as an emphasis on collaborative, interdisciplinary relationships with other nurses.

A Culture of Continued Professional Development
We also provide internships for nursing students in all areas, and scholarships are available through the Mary Washington Hospital Foundation.
